What’s Behind, What’s Ahead
Happy New Year!
Thank you to all my subscribers and others who’ve read my substack this past year. I’ve got an exciting series of articles planned for 2022, I’ll give you a sneak preview of some of the topics I’ll be writing about, but first a quick look back at the year that was for me. I’ve had my share of dynamic times, but 2021 may have taken the cake. Just this past year…
we moved from Toronto, where I’d lived for well over a decade, to the (semi) free state of Florida. Sold a house. Bought a house. And a boat. And a bigger boat.
The Filter podcast became a weekly radio show as well as a podcast.
I filmed the first season of a TV show featuring long-form conversations.
I got my wife pregnant. Due date in March.
And those are just the highlights. Meanwhile, as a backdrop, the political differences among western countries, and within the states, has only intensified. In the city we left, schools have closed again, restaurants are now legally obligated to discriminate, masking is ubiquitous, and nearby Quebec has rebooted the silliest of all measures: curfews. Many of the US states now looking like the Ontario we left. I can only hope our carefully chosen new location continues to be a light in this dim age, and I’ll be doing my best to make it so. If you’ve thought about making the pilgrimage down here, I highly recommend, and if you need assistance to make that happen send me a message, I’ll do what I can to help you follow the other end of the drinking gourd down to the southernmost edge of our crumbling empire.
What’s ahead
What can you expect on The Filter substack in 2022? Among other topics, I’ll be writing about:
The Truman Show conspiracy and how it relates to our current political climate
The dangers of the life extension movement and transhumanism (note I alluded to some of these in my Aubrey de Gray interview)
How “luxury beliefs” are killing the world (though you might be able to hedge around them)
The proper way to understand the extreme probabilities that rule our world
The coming rise of “play-to-earn” games, and financial implications for investors
More on the move towards Meta and telepathy and how to keep control in the face of a future that wants you to own nothing
Much more on the themes explored in Breakup! and how to survive and thrive in the post-American era.
I hope you stick around through 2022, and please let me know if there are any other topics you’d like me to write about.
Cheers everyone!
